Dr. Alagie Bah
Specialist: Land Resources Management
Alagie Bah is an Associate researcher - Resilience Building (under the Sustainable Landscapes and Integrated Climate Actions) for the World Agroforestry Center (ICRAF) in Nairobi. He received his Ph.D from Universiti Putra Malaysia, specializing in Land Resources Management. He is based in The Gambia and provides technical Support to the Large-scale Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) Project through the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources (MECCNAR), in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with funding from the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The project seeks to improve rural landscapes and sustainable management of Gambia’s natural resources in the community forests, community protected areas and multipurpose centers. In April and May 2017, Alagie was invited to serve as a member of a Technical Team (TT) for the development, review and validation of Gambia’s Strategic Program for Climate Resilience (SPCR). Between July and September 2017, Alagie was engaged by FAO Gambia Office as a member of a consultancy team to evaluate the MDG1c Project on ''Improving Food Security through Crop Production Intensification and School Feeding Program'' in The Gambia. In May 2018, he was part of a technical team invited to train national Assembly Select Committee Members on Agricultural Policies, Challenges and Opportunities in the agricultural sector, etc.
Prior to joining the World Agroforestry Center, Alagie was a Senior Lecturer at the School of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, University of The Gambia, where he also served as acting Dean for six months. He is an associate member of the Institute of Social Research and Development (ISRAD). His research focuses on soil fertility management, climate change and soil ecological health of agroecosystems. He has published a couple of peer-reviewed scientific publications and supervised/co-supervised more than 15 students at the BSc. and M.Sc. levels. He taught courses in soil science, biometry and research methods. Alagie was one of the recipients of the International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI) Scholar Award in 2013 for scholarly contribution to agricultural research
